MCD provides various opportunities for citizens to make a difference in our communities. Monitor your local creek, sign-up for a river cleanup or report the condition of your groundwater well. By so doing, you can help pass on our heritage of abundant, clean water to the next generation.
The Greater Dayton Partners for the Environment is a coalition of organizations who share the common goal of protecting, restoring, preserving, and promoting the environmental and agricultural resources of the Great Miami River and Little Miami River Watersheds. Groundwater Monitors are homeowners trained by MCD staff how to properly measure the depth to groundwater in their wells.
The Great Miami River Watershed Network meets quarterly to discuss items of mutual concern, share ideas and effectively leverage resources. Local Watershed Groups involve individuals, groups and institutions to address local issues that affect or are affected by watershed functions. Miami Valley Stream Team is a program that trains citizens how to monitor stream water quality.
There are River Clean-ups held each year where people can volunteer their time and keep the rivers beautiful.
Test Your Well events invite private well owners to bring a sample of their well water to be tested for the presence of nitrates at no charge.
