FAQs
Bathing, flushing the toilet, washing dishes and irrigating the lawn all require a great deal of water at home. Here, in the Great Miami River Watershed, the water we use is almost always groundwater, either from a private well or a municipal system. Homeowners can save money and protect our water resources by reducing the amount of water they use indoors and outside.

Typical water demands for homes and farms may be five to 20 gallons per minute, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Normally, water supply experts like to determine the peak demand, taking into account the number of bathrooms and bedrooms in the house. Peak demand in the home normally occurs at the beginning of the day, at bedtime, or during laundry or irrigation uses.
